Rifter subscription offer ends 3/31

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

Palladium Book’s the Rifter subscription special offer ends this month. For those who don’t know, the Rifter is Palladium’s quarterly gaming magazine, which is published in a source book format. There’s a couple of choices of free gifts, which you just have to pay shipping on.

Now, enough Palladium news for now. I better cover something different before you start to think all I play is Palladium!

Doctor Who rpg in the works

Friday, March 28th, 2008

For those of us in the U.S., the fourth season of doctor who is coming to the Sci-Fi Channel April 18th. In related gaming news, Cubicle 7 has licensed the rights to publish a Doctor Who rpg, and will be releasing it this summer. From their boards it looks like they’re in another level of playtesting, which is promising. I don’t know much about Cubicle 7, so I’m not sure what to expect from them.

If Torchwood isn’t enough for you, another Doctor Who spin-off, The Sarah Jane Adventures, will start April 11th. No rpg licensed for either one yet.

Review - Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

I hate class/level systems, but I loved Palladium. Isn’t that ironic? Palladium was the second system I seriously played. Well, third if you consider the red/blue/teal/black box Dungeons & Dragons and Advanced Dungeons & Dragons two separate systems. Robotech was the first Palladium game I ever owned and played. I was excited when I heard that Palladium had landed the new Robotech License. So excited, I pre-ordered a copy. My copy arrived last Monday, and this is my review

Free Battle Royale, I Mean Classroom Deathmatch

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

Atarashi Games, makers of Panty Explosion, have decided to let Classroom Deathmatch go out of press. Before you go scrambling to find a copy, they’ve put a pdf copy on their site, as a free download.

The game idea is basically Battle Royale (the novel, manga, or first movie, not the second one). A whole class of students are kidnapped and forced to fight each other to the death. Kinda like an accelerated, televised, Japanese Lord of the Flies.

Initial Reactions - Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles

Monday, March 24th, 2008

Today my copy of Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles finally arrived. A full review to follow soon, but my initial reaction is a bit cool. The whole manga sized thing seems gimmicky to me, and I wonder if it’s really a good format for an RPG like this one. I didn’t see a lot of original artwork, but at least it looks like they used quality pieces. On the positive site, the price seems good ($16.95).

Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

I live in a constant state of chaos. It makes doing anything, like posting, in a regular fashion, difficult. I guess that’s why you shouldn’t expect regular updates over here.

Since I’m not a very stable guy, I guess that’s why I’m extremely forgiving of Palladium Books. Actually I’ve come to expect slipping release dates from them ever since they announced Robotech: Invid Invasion. I used to see a release date for that book, then bike down to Games & Things (back when Stanford Shopping Center didn’t suck), and feel disappointed to find out that they pushed out the release date. I must have done that for months. Anyways that experience must have taught me never to trust Palladium Books’ release dates.

Well, when they announced Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles, I pre-ordered the book in the midst of a fanboy rampage. I must admit, I half expected the company to go south before shipping. I knew better than to trust the before Christmas release date (Palladium hit on the first roll? I don’t think so). Well, they finally billed my credit card, and their press release says it’s shipping on March 20th or sooner, so it must be shipping in a couple of months.

Like Palladium Books, don’t expect a timely review out of me. I’ve got a job to do, and a house to fix.

Goodbye Gary

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

Like every other gamer out there, I must say I’m sad to hear about Gary Gygax’s passing. I started off playing Dungeons and Dragons (basic set) in 5th grade, about 1985 or 86. I kept on playing D&D in high school, but I moved onto other games in college and afterwards. Only recently did I start playing D&D again. But it all started with D&D.

Thanks for all the good times Gary.

Welcome to Roleplay Life

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

Hi All,

Welcome to my gaming blog. Originally I conceived this site as a community site for gamers, but I haven’t had much time to work on that. So I’ve decided to dust off my writing skills and take a crack at writing about gaming. I’m a bit rusty, so please bare with me.
