White Wolf bringing back Hunter

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

Looks like White Wolf is bringing back another of it’s World of Darkness titles. This time it’s Hunter, but not the Reckoning but the Vigil. You can see the logo and read more on it here.

White Wolf’s new editions are more like re-imaginings of the original WoD games. I’m curious to see what they’re going to do with this one.

Review - Battlestar Galactica RPG Corebook

Friday, April 18th, 2008

It’s Friday and that means Doctor Who is back! It also means I’ll be watching Battlestar Galactica right after that. I’m a fan of the show, and I enjoy it even though they made Boomer a female Cylon, they got rid of the Cylon Raider, took away the Centurions’ voice, and, most tragic of all, they got rid of (sniff) Muffit. The only saving graces are the story, special effects, they kept the Viper, and, most importantly of all, Edward James Olmos plays Adama. I expect him to say to Helo, “It’s too bad she won’t live! But then again, who does?” I still miss that mechanical daggit, though.

Margaret Weis Productions has published The Battlestar Galactica Roleplaying Game. This company seems bent on making role playing games from television shows. First Serenity, now Battlestar Galactica, and they’re going to do Supernatural. They did a good job on the Serenity book, and they did a good job on this one to. Since they’ve done so well on television based games, I hope they can get the license for a Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles RPG. (more…)

White Wolf POD

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

White Wolf has added new books to their print on demand (POD) shop at Lulu. I’ve ordered a book from Lulu before and I was happy with the quality of the product. POD is a great technology for independent game publishers, and could be a great way for larger publishers to keep their back catalog available on the market.

Currently White Wolf is offering two Exalted books, and one Mind’s Eye Theater book. They also mention another book, World of Darkness - Innocents, but it’s not listed on Lulu yet. Check out White Wolf’s Lulu catalog here

Munchkin Quest - Coming August 2008

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

Steve Jackson Games has announced that they’re releasing Munchkin Quest in August. Munchkin Quest is a board game based on their popular Munchkin card game. Illustrations by the ubiquitous game-cartoonist John Kovalic. It looks a bit like Warhammer Quest to me. Maybe they’ll do a Space Munchkin Quest, to fill the void in my heart left by Space Hulk. Come back Space Hulk, come back!

I’d get a copy, but I just sent my whole gaming budget to the IRS. I wonder if I could write off all my games as a “business expense.”

My First 30 Days (or so)

Friday, April 11th, 2008

It’s been about a month since we I started this blog. I’ve been linked to by Robotech.com and from Roboblog III: The Odyssey, thanks to my review of the new Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles RPG. I haven’t started to market the site yet, but I’m off to a good start.

DunDraCon 2006 pulled me out of a serious funk I was in, and after DunDraCon 2007, I decided that I wanted to get more involved in the gaming community. I purchased the domain name soon after that. Originally, I envisioned a more community style website with some news and articles, but I ended up changing jobs soon after. The new job meant better pay and less stress, but it also meant most of my free time for developing webapps was now gone. In 2008 I decided that I would just set up the site and see how it went. So far so good.

The plan is at least one original post a week (review, commentary, advice, etc), and any interesting news I come across. I’ve enrolled in an online class, hopefully it’ll help this site some, but it also means more of my time will be eaten up. My Battlestar Galactica RPG Review will be coming up soon, and there will be some redesigning going on.

Anima Beyond Fantasy - Spring 2008?

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

In my last post, I mentioned Anima, Beyond Fantasy. Some of you thought I was talking about some furry roleplaying game (geez, buy a copy of the Albedo RPG and suddenly you’re a furry), others are familiar with the game. Anima is anime/manga inspired fantasy setting, which is currently a card game and a miniature game.

I was exposed to Anima for the first time DunDraCon a year ago. Upon hearing about the role playing game, I quickly check the release date. At the time the English version was coming soon. A year later, it’s still coming soon. Fantasy Flight Games has “spring 2008″ listed, but also says there’s no estimated time till the translation is complete. I think release date slip has beaten any slippage Palladium has ever had.

updated - oops, it was last year, not two years ago I learned about Anima. Article corrected.

Fantasy Flight Games to release Warhammer and Warhammer 40K rpg books soon

Friday, April 4th, 2008

Alot of us waited a long time for a Warhammer 40K rpg and we were pretty disappointed when we heard that Dark Heresy was being canceled by Black Library. Well, Fantasy Flight Games picked up the license and will be release a couple of books soon. Read more here.

I have a copy of the Black Library version of Dark Heresy. It’s a well produced book, and alot like Warhammer Fantasy RGP. I’d suggest that if you don’t have a copy of the book to wait for the Fantasy Flight release this summer. Let’s hope this doesn’t turn into the same type of fiasco that we’re seeing with the Anima rpg.
