WoD - Goonies: The Good Enough

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

White Wolf has released World of Darkness: Innocents. Innocents casts the players as 7 to 12 year olds in the World of Darkness. According to the product description, the book includes a version of the Storyteller system geared towards playing children.

There are two ways to order this book, as a hard cover directly from White Wolf (or from your favorite game shop), or as a soft cover, black and white, print on demand book from Lulu. The price difference is only about $5, so there’s no real savings.

Demon Hunters to be released soon

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

Margaret Weis Publications Ltd will be releasing Demon Hunters in a couple of weeks. Demon Hunters will use the Cortex system, the same system as Serenity and Battlestar Galactica. The hardcover rulebook will come with a 30 minute dvd by Dead Gentlemen Productions.

Initially I had thought that Demon Hunter was a role playing game with a video made for it. Turns out that Demon Hunters was a film that Dead Gentlemen Productions made back in 1999. I haven’t seen it yet, but I’ll probably give it a watch today. So will MWP do an rpg of the Gamers next?

If you do go to the site, no need to click on the product, all you’ll get is “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet…” and a picture of a Battlestar Galactica book. I understand that their “new” site is under construction, but leaving placeholder content like that doesn’t seem professional. Good thing this is an amateur site, I can get away with crap like that.

White Wolf bringing back Hunter

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

Looks like White Wolf is bringing back another of it’s World of Darkness titles. This time it’s Hunter, but not the Reckoning but the Vigil. You can see the logo and read more on it here.

White Wolf’s new editions are more like re-imaginings of the original WoD games. I’m curious to see what they’re going to do with this one.

White Wolf POD

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

White Wolf has added new books to their print on demand (POD) shop at Lulu. I’ve ordered a book from Lulu before and I was happy with the quality of the product. POD is a great technology for independent game publishers, and could be a great way for larger publishers to keep their back catalog available on the market.

Currently White Wolf is offering two Exalted books, and one Mind’s Eye Theater book. They also mention another book, World of Darkness - Innocents, but it’s not listed on Lulu yet. Check out White Wolf’s Lulu catalog here

Munchkin Quest - Coming August 2008

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

Steve Jackson Games has announced that they’re releasing Munchkin Quest in August. Munchkin Quest is a board game based on their popular Munchkin card game. Illustrations by the ubiquitous game-cartoonist John Kovalic. It looks a bit like Warhammer Quest to me. Maybe they’ll do a Space Munchkin Quest, to fill the void in my heart left by Space Hulk. Come back Space Hulk, come back!

I’d get a copy, but I just sent my whole gaming budget to the IRS. I wonder if I could write off all my games as a “business expense.”

Anima Beyond Fantasy - Spring 2008?

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

In my last post, I mentioned Anima, Beyond Fantasy. Some of you thought I was talking about some furry roleplaying game (geez, buy a copy of the Albedo RPG and suddenly you’re a furry), others are familiar with the game. Anima is anime/manga inspired fantasy setting, which is currently a card game and a miniature game.

I was exposed to Anima for the first time DunDraCon a year ago. Upon hearing about the role playing game, I quickly check the release date. At the time the English version was coming soon. A year later, it’s still coming soon. Fantasy Flight Games has “spring 2008″ listed, but also says there’s no estimated time till the translation is complete. I think release date slip has beaten any slippage Palladium has ever had.

updated - oops, it was last year, not two years ago I learned about Anima. Article corrected.

Fantasy Flight Games to release Warhammer and Warhammer 40K rpg books soon

Friday, April 4th, 2008

Alot of us waited a long time for a Warhammer 40K rpg and we were pretty disappointed when we heard that Dark Heresy was being canceled by Black Library. Well, Fantasy Flight Games picked up the license and will be release a couple of books soon. Read more here.

I have a copy of the Black Library version of Dark Heresy. It’s a well produced book, and alot like Warhammer Fantasy RGP. I’d suggest that if you don’t have a copy of the book to wait for the Fantasy Flight release this summer. Let’s hope this doesn’t turn into the same type of fiasco that we’re seeing with the Anima rpg.

Rifter subscription offer ends 3/31

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

Palladium Book’s the Rifter subscription special offer ends this month. For those who don’t know, the Rifter is Palladium’s quarterly gaming magazine, which is published in a source book format. There’s a couple of choices of free gifts, which you just have to pay shipping on.

Now, enough Palladium news for now. I better cover something different before you start to think all I play is Palladium!

Doctor Who rpg in the works

Friday, March 28th, 2008

For those of us in the U.S., the fourth season of doctor who is coming to the Sci-Fi Channel April 18th. In related gaming news, Cubicle 7 has licensed the rights to publish a Doctor Who rpg, and will be releasing it this summer. From their boards it looks like they’re in another level of playtesting, which is promising. I don’t know much about Cubicle 7, so I’m not sure what to expect from them.

If Torchwood isn’t enough for you, another Doctor Who spin-off, The Sarah Jane Adventures, will start April 11th. No rpg licensed for either one yet.
