Resurrection is gonna cost ya

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

It’s 2010, and I haven’t posted crap. Yes I am gaming, but mostly 4ed. I did get a copy of Doctor Who and it looks pretty good (love the initiative system).

I’m planning to make better use of this site in 2010. Possibly redesign the site or change CMS. Keep checking up.

Gaming in the Office

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

When we’re young, you got all the time in the world for gaming. When you get older, that time decreases. Get married? Lose more time. Have a kid? Count yourself lucky if you have any time at all. Guess you all figured that out from my irregular postings.

Outside my regular D&D game (which may go on a bit of a hiatus as the DM himself is having a kid), I just joined the Gaming Grunts for a weekly lunch hour game. They’ve had a game going for a bit now, and even post their games as podcasts. Currently we’re playing 6th edition Call of Cthulhu, set in the 1920s. I’m playing Handsome Hank Harrison, a not so good looking, not so bright, ex-boxer.

Back in the Dungeon

Sunday, May 17th, 2009

FInally got myself back into D&D. It was a short but sweet game, next time should be longer if I can keep up the house work.

Parenting since gaming wasn’t the only first for me today, I also had my first experience gaming with a remote player. We used a laptop, a logitech webcam, cable internet, and skype to pull it off, and I think it went pretty well. Eventually I’d like to set up a remote game with some people across the country that I miss gaming with.

The D&D insider character generator sped up my character generation process. The UI is very pretty, so I’m left wondering does it really work well, or does the spiffy interface gloss over the program’s weak points? I’ve used character generators for Unisystem and GURPS which worked okay, but had a very dry interface.

Hopefully, I’ll be able to game more often, and I’ll get back into the swing of blogging.

Happy 09

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

Welcome to Roleplay Life in ‘09. I’m working a few ideas for this site that I’m not going to talk about until I got them all worked out.

One thing I will talk about is that in late March. I’m expecting my first kid. So I’ll be blogging about gaming as a new parent. Hopefully I can get some advice from parent gamers. I’ve already gotten a few pieces of advice on a few boards I’m on.

Happy ‘09.

Roleplay-damus Predicts the Gaming Future.

Saturday, December 13th, 2008

In the beginning, I was doing a lot of gaming news reporting. After a while, I realized that’s not what I wanted to do with this site, and that there’s other sites that do it better. So I haven’t been watching the gaming news as closely. Going over old news, it looks like Topps has closed off WizKids, who owns the rights to Battletech and Shadowrun. Catalyst Game Labs still has a license, but they’ve made a move to purchase these two intellectual properties, and I hope they can pull it off.

With this news, I’m going to a little Nostradamus, and make a prediction. I predict that 4ed will be the last edition of D&D produced by Wizards of the Coast, or Wizards of the Coasts under Hasbro. There may be a 4.5, but I don’t think they’ll go beyond that. I don’t think a large company like Hasbro has the commitment to do a product like D&D well, hence all the erratas and bugs in the game.

My guess for who could take over the brand after WotC would be Paizo. They look the most ready to take over the line if someone had to.

I’m no good with crazy vague poetry, so I couldn’t go full Nostradamus. (”the golems shall take the dungeons from the wizards on the shore, and there they shall dwell with the dragons “). Feel free to add predictions in the comments below.

Received Maid RPG, Still waiting on Anima

Sunday, October 12th, 2008

I’ve received my digital copy and physical copy of the Maid RPG. Haven’t had a chance or time to run it yet. I should just show up at my friends’ house (yes I have a bunch of friends who game who live together) and run it. With the right group it could be a blast.

In other news, I’m waiting on Amazon for my copy of Anima. Either they sold out or didn’t get any copies.

Anima Beyond Fantasy Available for Preorder From Amazon

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

Fantasy Flight Games sold copies of Anima Beyond Fantasy at GenCon, and have announced that the game will be out this month. It’s now available for preorder at Amazon.com for a pretty good discount (and it’s actually being sold by Amazon). I’ve taken a chance and put my order in.

Ordered a Copy of Maid RPG

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

One of my two biggest search terms is Maid RPG. My only experience with it has been rolling up a character, but that was a lot of fun. Now that they’ve enabled ordering on their site, I’ve gone ahead and ordered a copy. I’ll review it once I get my copy (physical or PDF, doesn’t matter). I probably won’t be able to talk my usual D&D group to give it a whirl, so no play testing for me.

Yet Another 4th Edition - Heavy Gear

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

Looks like Heavy Gear is going 4th edition. No they’re not putting out a GSL version of the game, they’re actually releasing a new edition of their game. Steve Jackson Games and Dream Pod 9 will be selling the new version primarily as pdfs through e23. I’ve purchased some ebooks through them, they’re pretty good. If they were to also Print On Demand (POD) books, I definitely order a few.

More news to follow at Heavy Gear RPG.

Anima Beyond Fantasy Available at GenCon

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

Mike S commented on my last post on Anima Beyond Fantasy is on sale at GenCon (if it hasn’t sold out yet). I expect that after GenCon (Aug 20), Fantasy Flight Games will be posting more information on their site. You can read Mike S’s comment here (at the top of the list) for more information. Thanks Mike!
