On July 15th, Rifter #43 supposedly shipped from Palladium Books. I have not received my copy yet. I have seen it at my “local” game store. Well, at least I got my free copy of Splicer.
Where’s My Rifter???
August 1st, 2008The Blogging Will Continue
July 31st, 2008I’ve decided to resume blogging here at RPL, until I eventually update the site. I’m looking to add a slashdot style story submission system from within Wordpress, so any suggestions would be appreciated. I’m also considering changing the Content Management System (CMS) for this site, so any input on that would be appreciated.
Consolidation
July 8th, 2008Sometimes we don’t have enough time in the day to do everything we want and have to do. We have to focus our efforts. So I’ve decided to roll all my blogging into furballstudios.com, and focus a bit more on illustration. Not sure what I’m going to do with Roleplay Life right now, but it’ll be here for a bit. Time permitting, I may set up a couple of web services for games. We’ll see.
Thanks for the traffic!
Happy 4th (Edition)
June 19th, 2008Want to wish someone a happy 4th (edition)? Steve Jackson Games is selling “Happy 4ed” greeting card, that you can also play in Munchkin. Let your players know if you’re moving to fourth immediately, thinking about it, will never touch 4th, or continue playing your 4th edition game.
GSL Finally Available
June 18th, 2008Wizards of the Coast has released the Game System License (GSL), their new version of their open gaming license. You can read the license and download the System Reference Document here. You’ll still need a copy of the core books to use the system, since the SRD doesn’t include rules, just references.
Now I can create the Woolietaurs (half man/half sheep).
Robotech The Shadow Chronicles - Now Regular Size
June 16th, 2008Friday, while I was out running D&D, Palladium Books was sending the deluxe hardcover version of Robotech The Shadow Chronicles RPG to the printers. They promise more data, new illustrations, more equipment, and more spaceships.
I’m fine with deluxe editions, as long as they come out first, at the same time, or a year or two later as the regular version. When they come out soon after the first book WITH extras, it just feels wrong. I’ll wait for them to announce deluxe versions of the rest of the Robotech books before ordering.
Love The One You’re With!
June 12th, 2008We’ve been through four editions of D&D now, and the only half races that we’ve had the options of playing were half-elf and half-orc? What, dwarves are good enough to fight along side of, but not to marry your daughter? Pelor forbid that your son bring home a halfling girlfriend! Humans are too good for gnomes, but not above orcs? Okay, now they’ve gone and shoved those kids in the closet now too! While we’re at it, why can’t a gnome marry a dwarf, or an elf for that matter?
Come on guys, it’s time that we break down some of these barriers, and let people be free to love!
Quick Review - wizards.com
June 12th, 2008I’m still prepping for my game tomorrow. All I gotta say is the navigation on the WotC D&D site is a pain. Finding stuff on a website shouldn’t be some sort of skill challenge…
Thank you, Erick Wujcik
June 11th, 2008It seems a lot of the old game designers and fantasy writers are passing away lately. Erick Wujcik, whose name I remember from many Palladium games, passed away on Saturday, June 7th.
Erick created the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle RPG, back when TMNT was just a black and white comic. I used to play that all the time, mixed in with Ninjas & Superspies, and Heroes Unlimited. I think every weekend in middle school had at least one game going, and sometimes it was all weekend. In one of these boxes around here, I probably have some of my old characters, written out on blank sheets of copier paper. Amazing how many hours of fun we got out of a ten dollar book.
Got My Core Books
June 10th, 2008I got my Player Handbook, Dungeon Masters Guide, and Monster Manual yesterday. I’ve been busy working on my 4th edition campaign, so not much time to put together a comprehensive review. I run my first dungeon in over 8 years on Friday, so I’ll have a better idea of the rules after that.
The books look nice, but I wonder about their longevity. The paper and ink doesn’t feel right to me. Do we really need full color rule books? I guess it appeals to a wider, younger audience, which is who they’re trying to market to.
Also, this week is sketch week for me. I’m trying to do 10-minutes a day of sketching and posting them to my personal site. I’m not that good yet, but only through practice do we get better. That and killing wandering monsters… oooh a kobold!
